Mustang P-51D (2022)

Model of a Mustang P-51 D plane  done for a personal project.

This was my second time modeling a plane and I have found that I deeply enjoy it. I believe it is really interesting to take apart what makes up the mechanical parts and how they work together. I also like the level of research that goes into projects like this as I enjoy reading about these topics. For example, the P-51's wings used to be puttied in order to reduce air resistance, so the paneling lines in the winga is less visible than in the rest of the body!

One of the things I really wanted to do for this project was to model separate flaps and ailerons that could be rigged instead of doing them in texturing like in my past plane model. I even gave it a shot with a basic rig including the control surfaces (ailerons, flaps), the landing gear, and a steering system that controlled the movement of the control surfaces.
